Sunday fundraiser on the waterfront to provide healthy meals for Alexandria firefighters

Firefighters aren’t the perfect eaters, and an upcoming fundraiser goals to present Alexandria’s first responders more healthy choices.

The Alexandria Hearth Basis is internet hosting the fundraiser, which incorporates freebies for youths and adults and raffles for Washington Wizards and Washington Nationals video games. It is going to be held at Waterfront Park (1 Prince Avenue) on Sunday, September 11, from 11 a.m. to six p.m.

“Most individuals are usually not conscious that our fireplacefighters need to pay for all their very own groceries for the three meals a day they eat on the fireplace homes,” stated Lorie Inexperienced, vp of the AFF.

The primary explanation for loss of life for on-duty firefighters is coronary heart illness, in line with the National Fire Protection Association.

The AFF has partnered with D.C. firefighter Jonathan Tate, the founding father of nonprofit Food on the Stove, and proceeds from the occasion will go towards supplying Alexandria firefighters with free wholesome meals.

“Because the fireplace fighters have to purchase their very own meals, they usually purchase meals that's cheaper and straightforward to make – suppose fatty pasta dishes. Meals on the Range is altering that mindset by offering free wholesome meals,” Inexperienced stated.
